Aunty Fee's Montessori Gems is...

Aunty Fee's Montessori Gems is a Early childhood development center welcoming inclusive education and blending the philosophy of early learning in a Montessori enviroment together with the requirements of CAPS, in Makhado, Limpopo that follows the principles of Maria Montessori who believed, that in an ordered and prepared environment, a child is able to develop and learn naturally.

At Aunty Fee's Montessori Gems we offer an authentic Montessori environment incorporating the Letterland phonic system, and through one-on-one instruction and following the child, children are able to develop at their own pace.  A respect for one another and the world around them is emphasized. 

Montessori Gems is an early childhood education center that also trains their staff in Montessori education.

Who is Maria Montessori and what is the Montessori Method?

​

Maria Montessori, born in 1870 and died in 1952, was the first woman medical doctor qualified at the University of Rome. She developed the Montessori Method of education and was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize for three consecutive years, 1949, 1950 and 1951.

Due to her excellent observation skills, Montessori noted, a long time before it became popular belief that children go through a series of “sensitive periods” during the developmental years (the most well observed being acquisition of language). This means that there is a special "window of opportunity"where the child is ready to learn certain concepts almost by absorption. Outside of this period, learning  is work and far more difficult. 

She used logic and common sense to understand the frustrations that face the child when their quest for independence is thwarted – often by their caring and well-meaning parents. Montessori believed that children responded well in an enriched but disciplined environment and so she developed the “Casa Bambino” or “Children’s House” an environment where safety, clear boundaries, and the correct educational material abound. She trained many teachers to do the same and then to trust in the environment and allow the child through experience to progress through their developmental milestones.

There are many books written by her, and by other scholars where her methods are expounded.
